Wijnaldum fast becoming the complete midfielder – Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool boss, Jurgen Klopp believes summer signing, Giorgionio Wijnaldum is steadily improving and is showing signs of adding more grit to his attacking play.

The Netherlands international, who joined the Reds from Newcastle last summer in a big money move is finally showing the quality that prompted his club to splash the cash on him and boss, Klopp believes the 26-year-old’s willingness to adapt and try new things has been key in his development at Anfield.

When asked about the rationale behind axing Can for Wijnaldum, Klopp said as quoted by Mirror:

“It was not the easiest decision of my life because it was not too long ago that Emre was outstanding against Chelsea and in Hull. But in this game Georginio showed a really good combination of an aggressive, defensive midfielder plus a creative, offensive midfield player.

“We then have all of them available at a high level and I have to take the decision. He has been really good for us, and he has formed a good partnership with Jordan Henderson.

The former PSV man and Emre had been used interchangeably this season as part of a midfield trio of the seemingly undroppable Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana, and he replaced the young German in the match against Tottenham a fortnight, and he rewarded his manager with an all-action battling performance, stifling the likes of Moussa Dembele and Victor Wanyama.

He joined The Reds on the back of scoring 11 goals for Newcastle in a season where they succumbed to the cold hands of relegation.
