Hammers boss, Slaven Bilic had identified St. Etienne defender, Kelvin Malcuit as a necessary addition in the summer, as he moves to make the transition to The London Olympic stadium easier as from next season.
Bilic had a fantastic first season with the club, but has struggled to replicate that form this year as the team and players acclimatize to the demands of playing on a bigger pitch. West Ham have been inconsistent all season, and are targeting Malcuit as one of the men to take them forward.
Malcuit, 25 is in his third year with the French outfit and would be interested in a move away from Ligue 1. The Sun reports that West Ham had bids of £7.5m and £8m rejected in the with her transfer window, and are willing to up the bid to £10m in the summer.
Bilic has seen the likes of Arthur Masuaku and Sam Byram fail to replicate their high standards they achieved at previous clubs, and a potential Malcuit arrival may mean more competition for places.
The former Chamois Nortais man is predominantly a full back, capable of playing on either flank. However, he is also adept at playing in midfield and on the wings, meaning he will be a valuable and versatile addition should he decide to sign for The Hammers.
He has played 26 games for his club this season, scoring no goal and delivering four assists. He played the full 90 minutes in the 3-0 drubbing at Manchester United in the Europa League last Thursday, and fairly impressed as he showed he can play against the top clubs in England.
