Tottenham Join Harry Maguire Race

Tottenham have joined Southampton and Everton in the race for 23-year-old central defender, Harry Maguire, according to report from Ibtimes. The Hull City player has stepped up to the Premier League with relative ease after playing in the Championship last year and has impressed for the struggles all season.

Southampton are resigned to losing Virgil Van Dijk in the summer and have identified Maguire as a player on the rise, who could fit their philosophy. Everton want him to replace Phil Jagileka who is reportedly on his way out of Goodison Park.

A deal hinges on Hull surviving the drop at the season. The team were sure of going down under Mike Phelan, but since the former Manchester United assistant got sacked, young Portuguese manager, Marco Silva has steadied the ship since taking over last month, introducing a defensive solidity to the club that has seen Maguire really impress.

Everton will offer him first team football in a bid to make him switch allegiances while the prospect of playing European football and living in London may prove too much for the player to ignore.

Maguire is a tall, physically imposing, old fashioned centre back who is interested in only getting the ball away from the striker.

However, his ball retention and playing skills has earned him praise from critics and fans alike. The former Sheffield United man has made 22 appearances for Silva’s side this season, scoring once.
