Rooney Could Still Leave Old Trafford Before the End of the Month

Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney could still exit the club before the end of the month as the race for his signature hots up. The England captain has struggled for form and consistency all season, and is wanted by few of the major clubs in the Chinese Super League, according to report from Telegraph.

The 31-year-old has struggled to impose himself on Jose Mourinho’s thoughts this season, and has rumored to be close to leaving the club in the summer. However, with the transfer window of the Chinese First Division not closing until next week, there is still chance for a deal to be concluded.

Rooney has just 18 months on his £300,000 a week deal at the Theatre of Dreams, and there have been no talks about a contract extension. The former Everton man is no longer the face of the club, as that mantle of leadership has fallen on talismanic striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the 35-year-old who has scored 23 goals since joining the club in the summer.

The likes of Shanghai SIPG and Guanghzou Evergrande are reportedly interested in his services as they are willing to offer him £32m a year to join them.

Rooney has not started a league game since mid-Decmeber, a far cry from his previous era of invincibility at the club. Rooney is a striker, who is also capable of playing as a supporting striker. Over the years, he has earned praise for his work rate, finishing and creativity.

He recently became The Red Devils’ all time goal scorer after scoring his 250th goal, overtaking Bobby Charlton.
