After Bayern Munich scored their fifth goal against Arsenal, Alexis Sanchez collapsed on the pitch at the halfway line, seemingly unable to comprehend how his team could wilt in just 45 minutes after going in level at the halftime break.

The 28-year-old ran himself ragged, but his teammates didn’t have the fight the Chilean possesses, which has led to question but his long term future at the club. Sanchez harried the Bayern Munich defence time and time again, but there was no one ready to help him out.

The former Barcelona man arrived in England in 2014 as a £35m signing, and immediately slotted into the team, scoring 25 goals in his debut season, and also playing very well last season.

This season, since being moved into a central role, he has been responsible for 17 goals and 8 assists. No other player in the division has contributed more, however, the Chilean’s body language is suggesting that he is fed up with life at the club.

The mediocre mentality of the manager, players, and lack of statement signings have all culminated in a refusal to sign an extension to his contract, which expires in the next 18 months.

The current situation at the club concerning Wenger’s future does not augur well for the mercurial attacker, as a new manager could take time to settle into the mode of operation at the club, as Wenger had total control regarding players at the club.

Sanchez can’t be blamed for lack of effort like Mesut Ozil, as the German has been frustrating in parts for the major part of this season. The likes of PSG, Juventus, Inter Milan and even Chelsea have been linked to his signature, and Arsenal would do well to cash in if they don’t want to lose him on a free.

As his countrymen demonstrated on Thursday in Chile, Sanchez should move to a team willing to fight as he has shouldered that responsibility for too long. A man can only take so much.
