Liverpool sweating over Lovren’s fitness


Ahead of what promises to be a busy end of the season schedule for Liverpool, the club is sweating on the fitness of Croatian defender, Dejan Lovren.

The former Southpton man has missed the last two matches due to a knee complaint, and has been sent to Gemrany for further tests. Lovren has become a key cog of boss, Jurgen Klopp’s team this season,and in his absence, the German has played Lucas Leiva in the heart of the defence all to varying success.

The £20m centre back, whonlast featured in the 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea has flown to Germany to consult a specialist as he seeks a solution to the injury situation.

The player also missed the warm weather training camp in La Manga, South Spain which was organized by the club to help the players recharge their batteries had been expected to return for Monday night’s game at The King Power Stadium, when the Reds face champions, Leicester City.

However, the latest from Mirror will come as a blow to Klopp, who desperately wants to play Lovren and Joel Matip together, as both players have not tasted defeat all season playing alongside each other in the centre-back role.

The Reds, who had a poor January and are a point behind both Arsenal and Tottenham, while being a point ahead of Manchester United are expected to beat Claudio Ranieri’s struggling champions, before a home clash against Arsenal on March 4.
