Watching Liverpool capitulate yet again against relegation threatened Leicester on Monday night, one could almost feel for Jurgen Klopp.

The charismatic German looked a shadow of his former boisterous self, having the look of a defeated man who had no way to motivate his players in what looked like a very difficult game.

The Reds had been expected to stream roll over the Foxes, who recently sacked their title-winning manager, Claudio Ranieri and had not scored in the league since the beginning of the year.

Goals courtesy of a brace by Jamie Vardy and an excellent Danny Drinkwater strike ensured that Liverpool ended up empty handed at the King Power Stadium for the second season in a row.

The likes of Lucas and James Milner have been played out of position all season, and they were ruthlessly exposed all game long. The pace and ferocity at which the game was played ensured that both veterans were out of sorts for almost the entire duration of the game and highlighted the problems in defence The likes of Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan were brought in to plug in the holes at the back, but both players have struggled to impose themselves on a squad desperately needing a leader at the back.

Wilfried Ndidi, the man tasked with the task of replacing N’Golo Kante at Leicester was majestic against the 18-time English champions, making 10 tackles against the opposition, and the second most in a single game this season, just 4 behind Kante who also achieved the feat against Liverpool back in January.

The midfield look lightweight without any form of physical presence, while the pedestrian looks bereft of ideas whenever Sadio Mane decides not to come to the party. Missing out on Europe will be near disastrous for The Anfield side, but they only have themselves to blame. Jurgen Klopp surely can’t wait for the summer to arrive and it to herald a new beginning at the club.
