Adam-Lallana

When Adam Lallana joined Liverpool at the start of the 2014/2015 season, not many people took notice of him. The Southampton captain was the typical grade to grace story, the player who had worked hard enough to be considered an elite player.

The Southampton Liverpool partnership was gathering momentum and the England international looked like another Saint about to strut his stuff on the hallowed grounds of Anfield. In his three years at the club, Lallana has steadily improved much so that he has gotten himself a new and improved contract.

A favourite of manager, Jurgen Klopp, Lallana is a disciple of the high pressing, high octane football favoured by his manager.

He will harry, press and force opponents into mistakes all day long while his technical and tactical intelligence are indispensable for a club like Liverpool which prides itself as a model club when it comes to playing a certain way.

He has been responsible for 15 goals( 7 goals + 8 assists) in all competitions which is not bad coming from playing in a midfield trio alongside Gini Wijnaldum and Jordan Henderson, which has seen the midfielder add grit to his game.

Always regarded as a luxury player due to his ball playing ability, Lallana has evolved from his time at St. Mary’s. Gone is the timid player that was content with allowing the strikers score all the goals, and replaced by a player who regards assists and goals as important in equal measure.

He signed a new contract yesterday and few at the club will begrudge him his worthiness to an extension. His hardwork, fitness and willingness to improve have all benefited him. If only other professional footballers can take a cue from him, the football world will be full of players who were not blessed with natural ability, but developed themselves due to back breaking hardwork and dedication.
